I'm a production graphic designer in the film and television industry, based in Toronto. I've been working in the business since 2004, not only as a graphic designer but also as an art director, set decorator, dresser and buyer on union and independent productions and commercials, and as a theatre set designer. I am a DGC Ontario member and a NABET permittee.
I have a somewhat eclectic background, which I find makes me well-suited for the art department. Originally from England, I studied art and art history in high school (along with literature and pure mathematics which really confused the careers advisor) and went on to complete the Architecture program at Sheffield University. I took a year out here and there to travel (India, Australia, places with better weather) and moved to Canada after I graduated. I worked in various architecture practices before realising it wasn't for me and discovering there was more varied and creative work to be had in the film world.
Since then I've been fortunate in working on a good variety of shows: childrens' and teens' shows, cop- and hospital-type shows, even a show about tv shows ... a large part of what I love about working in this business is the infinite range of possibilities in subject matter. I'm organised, practical and personable as well as creative which really helps with the tight timelines and teamwork of production, and I thrive in a fun, relaxed but professional environment.
